Dear Board, Please respond to Jan as soon as possible to let her know if you can host a session. The ones that still need a host are listed below. This is a simple role, and even if you are not already attending one of these sessions, it's easy to host one and then move over to the session you plan to attend. With the number of us on the board, I'm confident there are plenty who can step in and help with this effort. Jan is coordinating session hosts. Please respond to her directly. For my research participants, I will be recruiting women working in U.S. higher education in administrative or academic positions who have children in the home under the age of 18. The purpose of the study is to explore women’s perceptions of how their work-family enrichment experiences influence the higher education leadership culture.Work-family enrichment is the concept that an individual’s work and family roles benefit and improve one another. The primary activity will be collecting data by interviewing volunteer association members by telephone. I also request to provide materials promoting this research which would be distributed to your state association members to ask for their participation.These materials are provided for your review including the Informed Consent Form that each volunteering participant will need to sign and return to me. This project has received initial approval from Capella University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), which has reviewed my study and research plan to ensure adequate protection of participants. I am now seeking permission from select state associations to obtain full IRB approval. My anticipated start date for the research study is November 17, 2014, and I expect that data collection for this study will last no more than two months. Any data collected will be kept confidential. In accordance with Capella University policy and best practices for ethical research, neither participants nor sites will be identified in any report of my findings or in my published dissertation. Dear UWHEN Board, A few quick updates for you: FALL WORKSHOPS Attached is the list of fall workshop registrations as of today for each venue. Please spread the word on your campuses and encourage women (and encourage your leadership to encourage women in their areas) to attend. There is much to discuss at the board meeting and possibly some decisions to be made regarding operational processes that will accommodate UWHEN leadership transitions in the future. UWHEN Board members: In the spirit of sharing our successes and learning to boast a bit about our accomplishements, I wanted to share with you that I was notified that I will be receiving the Women in Agronomy, Crops, Soils and Environmental Sciences Mentoring Award presented annually by the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America and the Soil Science Society of America to an individual selected from a national search. The award honors a society member for outstanding mentoring efforts aimed at advancing women in science and will be presented at the National ASA-CCSA-SSSA meeting in Long Beach California in November. This is our 4th year trying to get this passed. Our Commission bill passed in the House overwhelmingly in May. In the Senate there are just 2 Senators objecting to our legislation. We need unanimous consent for it to go to the floor for a vote.(They have to pass the identical bill from the House, which is why it is listed as and HR bill in the message below) Senator Lee from Utah is one who is objecting. (The other is Sen. Coburn in Oklahoma) We now have an an urgent grassroots campaign underway to get as many persons as possible in Utah to send the email message below to his office. One of his objections is that we will come back for congressional money later. We have it listed in the bill that it will be privately funded. Dear Senator Lee, I understand you are objecting to HR 863,Commission Legislation for a National Women’s History Museum. The bill states that no federal monies will be used for this project and includes that the Commission will report back to Congress on a fundraising plan that will fund the Museum and its operations in perpetuity. No museum legislation has ever included such language. I strongly urge you to remove your objection so the bill can pass by unanimous consent.
