[Let us know how we can help you.] Dear Professor Madsen,
Your name and contact information was given to me by Professor Joyce Kinkead. She is a charter member of our National Women's History Museum. We are trying to build this museum in DC and have more online programs, resources and traveling exhibits.
In order to build in DC on Federal land, we need Congressional approval. This is our 4th year trying to get this passed. Our Commission bill passed in the House overwhelmingly in May.
In the Senate there are just 2 Senators objecting to our legislation. We need unanimous consent for it to go to the floor for a vote.(They have to pass the identical bill from the House, which is why it is listed as and HR bill in the message below)
Senator Lee from Utah is one who is objecting.
(The other is Sen. Coburn in Oklahoma)
We now have an an urgent grassroots campaign underway to get as many persons as possible in Utah to send the email message below to his office.
One of his objections is that we will come back for congressional money later. We have it listed in the bill that it will be privately funded.
Dear Senator Lee,
I understand you are objecting to HR 863,Commission Legislation for a National Women’s History Museum. The bill states that no federal monies will be used for this project and includes that the Commission will report back to Congress on a fundraising plan that will fund the Museum and its operations in perpetuity. No museum legislation has ever included such language.
I strongly urge you to remove your objection so the bill can pass by unanimous consent.
Sincerely,

Dear UWHEN Board,
Welcome to another exciting year! I’ve received several responses to yesterday’s Fall Workshop email and it seems the thread of enthusiasm is active across the state. Thank you for spreading the UWHEN energy on your campus. It’s infectious!
I have one fabulous piece of news to share: Dr. Daneece Huftalin, Interim President at Salt Lake Community College, has agreed to be the UWHEN Presidential Sponsor this year. She has worked with Dr. Madsen over the years and is a strong UWHEN supporter and advocate. Please join me in welcoming President Huftalin as our new Presidential Sponsor.
Please mark your calendars with the following Board Meeting dates, and let’s look forward to a fun and productive year.
* Friday, September 26, 2014 (before SLCC Fall Workshop)
* Friday, January 30, 2015 (time and place to be announced)
* Monday, May 4, 2015 (time and place to be announced)
Hope you had a safe and happy 4th!
Shirlayne
