Well ladies and gentleman, and whatever Dustin is, I'm writing in to let you all know I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with you on these assessments. You have all become some of my closest friends. I know there have been a couple of times where it felt like I was a no-show (sorry UVU, I had big plans for you till I broke the leg) and didn't find much, but I always learned something and tried to bring at least one new trick to each assessment and you were all so nice indulging me with them.
As you all know I've been looking for something that was more of a full-time security gig. An opportunity to do that has finally presented itself and I'll be taking it, starting Sept 8th. It'll be much more Blue Team oriented, but I hope to talk them into some in-house Red Team audits as well.
Just know that I will miss our little gatherings and chats, while Dave does all the work. As for USU's contribution to the team, I'll be making some recommendations and they should be acting on it very quickly, with the Weber audit coming up.
Should you feel so inclined to stay in-touch, and I really hope you do, you can reach me at the following:
email/IM: chuckarama@kimbers.us You all should have my phone number, but if you don't and want it, just let me know and I'll send it along.
I tend to use Google+ more than Facebook, and follow a few of you there, so if the rest of you join up, let me know.
Jake: The blue will always be strong with you. Dustin: The Goblin, we'll always have our time on the SLCC stairs together. Dave: Just keep doing what you're doing. ...leveraging UVU raises at the U's expense. Jon: Thank your wife for me. ...her pastries are delicious. Mark: Stay hepatitis free down there, my friend. Andrew: Don't you EVER hack my server again! Not being able to live with the shame might be the whole reason I'm leaving...
Don't cry. Instead, in my absence, enjoy the Nigerian scammer song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG57mPMiJvw My favorite part is the subtitle translation where "disappear" is misspelled as 'despair'. What else would you expect from a Nigerian Scammer?!

Hello.
I'm Andrew Goble, and I disapprove of this message.
Chuck, remember Jon's comment about the beating heart getting ripped out of the UVU security team? What you've done is kind of like that, except the kidneys or spleen.
You will be missed, my friend.

I like to think of myself as more of the lower bowel of the team. Okay. Time to come clean. At least one of those in the UVU room was me. Not "the one", but at least one of them.

Noooooo!!!! What are we going to do without your ninja and lock picking skills?!
But seriously congrats!!! A huge loss for USU and the team.

I actually do have this downloaded. I was going to go through the email accounts to make sure that if anyone used a USU account, we forced a password reset on them, just to be sure they didn't use the same one. I dare any of them to call in and ask why! I can put it up on the dump, if anyone is interested.

ATK. I'll be doing incident response officially, but the main thing they want is for me to get all their data organized and fed into their SEIM, figure out what they're missing, then start building APT detection out of it. It's big data stuff, which I get all weird about anyways. Then they want me to begin auditing (read internal pentest) to see if things are working the way they think they are. You guys all know the drill here.

Well I appreciate everyone's comments. I got a chuckle (I don't use that word EVER) out of all of them. I'm going to miss the good times that are the USHE Security Audits, but maybe I'll be back someday. This job will be some real high level stuff, interfacing with all the three letter and four letter alphabet soup of federal agencies etc. It's the kind of opportunity I won't ever be able to get at USU. Hopefully I can pick up some real skills and maybe come back to higher ed someday, after I feel like I've earned the "professional" title, and bring a few new tricks with me. There isn't one of you I wouldn't work for or with again. Your institutions are all lucky to have you and the audits have become a core piece of their growing security successes.
If you ever want to entertain the idea of selling out and going the other way, I know they have one more position doing incident response and several more in security operations they are trying to fill. Yes, all your dreams could come true and you could work side by side with me all day, every day. So.e perks are worth selling out for! ;)

Should you feel so inclined to stay in-touch, and I really hope you do, you can reach me at the following:
email/IM: chuckarama@kimbers.usmailto:chuckarama@kimbers.us You all should have my phone number, but if you don't and want it, just let me know and I'll send it along.

There. Now maybe it will be happy. Today _is_ indeed my last day, so it was nice to hear your lies, one last time. I'm crying right now. ...mostly because I'm thinking of your face in the background, while I was performing a VERY serious social engineering hack. ;)

Wow that’s strange. I sent this on August 20th from my phone, but it got stuck in the app? Weird.
